Important and Urgent Research on Longevity
Which of the following best describes your attitude about getting older?
1. I am frustrated with the changes to my body and have a hard time feeling good about what lies ahead.
2. I am looking forward to growing in new directions even though I know there will be losses in the future.
How you answer may be much more important than you realize.
A 2000 Yale School of Public Health study of people who have strong genetic risk factors for developing dementia found that those who held positive beliefs about aging were nearly 50% less likely to develop the disease than those with negative age beliefs.
Wait --there’s more.
Research just published in the August 2019 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that:
Optimism is specifically related to a 11-15% longer life span, on average.
Optimism is also related to greater odds of living to age 85 and beyond.
Did you know that there are techniques that can help you develop a more positive attitude? They can help you feel happier. They are easy to learn, but you have to invest some time up front to create the mental habit.
How do you find the time to do that in the midst of your busy life?
That’s where coaching comes in. We help you figure out a plan to get your goals accomplished. Then we hold your hand (to the fire, if you want!) so you can actually follow through and get where you want to be.
We help you see what is getting in your way, and get past it.
As productivity guru Stephen Covey (7 Habits of Highly Effective People) would put it, coaching enables you to take building a healthy future OUT OF the “Important not Urgent” box and INTO the “Important and Urgent” box. Which is what most of us focus on.
