Yes. Tomatoes Can Make You More Productive
August is tomato time.
Crazy shapes, sizes, and colors. Flavor that bursts in your mouth. Yum.
A tiny pleasure to savor amid so much stress and uncertainty.
But did you know the tomato can also make you more productive?
It’s the time management method known as the Pomodoro technique. Pomodoro (poe-moe-door-oh) is the Italian word for tomato.
It's so easy.
The idea is that you get more done in shorter concentrated periods balanced with breaks. So if you are working at your desk, reading, or any project at all, just set a timer for 25 minutes. When it rings, you stop and get up for 5 or 10 minutes. Then you come back and set it for another 25 minutes.
I have been doing this for the last month and it is amazing.
When I wasn’t in meetings, I used to lose track of how long I was sitting at my desk. Minutes stretched into hours.
That's bad news for backs and shoulders, not to mention general health!
This method jolts me to get up. I can stretch, grab a cup, and even make a quick call while walking around.
When I get back to the desk for another 25, I have more energy. And I get so much more done!
So why is this called the Pomodoro/tomato technique? Because the inventor came from Italy, where common kitchen timers were made to look like a tomato.
Try it. And with the time you save, you can make some gazpacho, the refreshing cold tomato soup! Here's a simple, authentic Spanish recipe approved by my nephew who lived in Spain.
P.S. In this video interview with my colleague Bryce Tubbs, I share a couple of tools that can help you refresh your perspective about your life. Another good thing to do in August.
And if you can use help getting clarity, let’s talk!
We‘ll set up a complimentary, confidential conversation. I'll even put on the timer so we can do it in 25 minutes!
